Best brunch places in Harrogate

Harrogate may be a small town, but it’s big on flavours when it comes to brunch. Whether you prefer traditional English breakfast fare, Nordic-inspired delights, or innovative culinary creations from Michelin-trained chefs, Harrogate’s brunch scene has it all.

From the iconic Betty’s Café Tea Rooms to the chic and trendy Hoxton North, we’ve selected our favourite picks for breakfast and brunch in Harrogate – the very best way to start your day in Yorkshire.

Hoxton North

Inspired by the chilled independent brunch scene in London, Hoxton North specialises in breakfast, brunch, and coffee in relaxed and stylish surroundings. Established by husband and wife team Timothy and Victoria Bosworth in 2013, the intention was to bring the independent spirit of Shoreditch to their home county of Yorkshire, and it seems to have worked – the café moved into bigger premises after a few years, and remains one of the best brunch spots in Harrogate.

Their all-day breakfast and brunch menu is kept fresh with a specials board based on what’s new and in season, but all year round you can expect beautifully cooked brunch classics. Think eggs Benedict, Royale or Florentine on a toasted brioche bun, French toast with crisp smoky bacon and maple syrup, or enjoy tasty dishes like halloumi, avocado, and poached eggs on soft sourdough toast.

Baltzersen’s

Baltzersen’s also made an appearance on our list of the best restaurants in Harrogate[EP1] , but they’re too good a brunch spot to not mention here. Making brunch in Harrogate a little bit more hygge, Baltzersen’s is a Nordic-inspired spot that offers a delicious and varied range of options from their breakfast and brunch menu.

They specialise in combining local produce with a Nordic twist – in their brunch buns, your choice of Addyman’s sausage or Sykes House sausages will be served on a potato and spinach rösti in a toasted brioche bun, baked fresh on the premises each morning. If you’ve got a sweeter taste then try their take on grøt, a delicious oat porridge served in the classic Scandi style, with dulce de leche, toasted almonds and sliced apple, or an American-inspired PB&J porridge.

The Wild Plum

One of the very best brunch places in Harrogate, the Wild Plum serves seasonal breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes taken to the next level. Chef Bethany Haresign trained under Michelin-starred chefs, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that the care, quality and presentation of the food at the Wild Plum is top-notch.

Their food is all made in-house and their ingredients are locally sourced, with a seasonal menu that changes weekly. Some of the perennial favourites you’ll find on the menu include international flavours like Shakshuka or Mexican eggs Benedict, alongside local-inspired dishes like crumpets with barbequed flaked trout and samphire, or buckwheat crepes that celebrate the versatility of British tomatoes. For something a bit lighter, try their roasted cheese and tomato loaf, using Fountains Gold cheddar cheese from Wensleydale.

On their varied menu, you’ll find all of your favourite breakfast classics, like a full English breakfast, eggs Benedict, huevos rancheros or pancakes. There are plenty of fresh takes on brunch dishes too, including Cinnamon Grahams French toast, chilli scrambled eggs, and some delicious nibbles like bubble red shrimp or vegetable gyoza.

The Ivy

Part of the successful franchise that came from the famed London restaurant of the same name, the Ivy is a similarly stylish and sophisticated spot for brunch in Harrogate – although you probably won’t spot as many celebrities hanging out here on Parliament Street.

Whether you spot a famous face or not, the Ivy still offers a charming experience and definitely doesn’t disappoint when it comes to delicious food. The menu is extensive and they have some lovely brunch options, including Belgian waffles with poached eggs, crushed avocado and buttermilk pancakes with strawberries, Greek yoghurt and lemon balm.

Brunch at Betty’s

For a classic Harrogate experience, you simply can’t do better than Betty’s. This famous tea room opened in Harrogate in 1919, and has since become a Yorkshire institution, with cafes in York, Ilkley, and Northallerton.

Famous for their afternoon tea, Betty’s also serves a brilliant breakfast menu, with traditional British classics like kedgeree and a full English. There are also speciality dishes like their Swiss Bircher muesli or a Florentine rösti, alongside tempting pastries and pikelets. Or, for a really special occasion, opt for the Imperial Breakfast, a ‘grand selection’ for two that gives you a delicious taste of everything on the breakfast menu including mini rösti and a pot of Betty’s classic Tea Room tea blend.

Quirky Farm Bistro

If you’re looking for a more rustic and altogether wholesome brunch experience, make your way to Farm Bistro on Oxford Street. Run by Lise and her business partner Fabrizio, the menu combines influences from her Antiguan heritage and his Italian roots with a good old fashioned British breakfast bistro.

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, you’ll love the chef’s special pink crepes with Nutella and Chantilly cream, their famous blueberry pudding, or the caramel brioche French toast, but there are plenty of savoury picks too. From a classic full British breakfast to the Antiguan salt fish fritters and rum cake, the care that’s gone into the menu is clear.

Harrogate boasts a diverse range of brunch spots that cater to different tastes and preferences. Whether you’re seeking classic tea room experience or a cosy Sunday brunch with friends, these brunch places in Harrogate offer you plenty of choice.
