1. Uncover Forbidden Corner
Set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, discover labyrinths, tunnels, gardens and more at the Forbidden Corner – one of the best family days out in North Yorkshire!
Unlike anywhere else in Yorkshire – and perhaps in the whole country – spend the whole day following winding paths and opening doors that lead to the wrong place, as you try your hardest not to get lost.
Loved by all ages, make a day of it and bring a picnic or have a bite to eat at the on-site café, serving a range of savoury and sweet treats.

2. Get lost at York Maze
If you’re looking for something similar to Forbidden Corner, but close to the centre of York, then you can’t go wrong with York Maze. Popular with kids and big kids alike, it’s only open during the summer months, so if you’re desperate to go, make sure you plan your visit at the right time.
The maize maze is the main attraction, stretching the equivalent of more than eight Wembley Stadiums, making it the largest maze in Europe. However, there’s so much more to do here: discover dinosaurs at the Jurassic maze, or have a go playing the xylophone and drums in the music maze.
There’s also plenty of playgrounds and even a crazy golf course, so you really can make the most of your time here.

Perfect for taking the little ones to, pigs are – as you’d guess! – the main attraction here. Head to the Piglet Maternity Ward to watch expectant mums, and new mums nestle with their newborn piglets, before visiting the Animal Barn and meeting baby chicks, bunnies, alpacas and more.

Another great thing to do with the kids in North Yorkshire, is step back in time and take a steam train ride on the iconic North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
With six stops across the county, including Pickering, Whitby, and Levisham; pick the stop that’s most convenient for you – although we’d recommend getting on at Pickering Station if you can, as it’s modelled on a station from the 1930s, and has a gift shop and a tearoom, where you can dine on finger sandwiches and tasty cakes.

Situated in the town of Thirsk, the Falconry Centre is just another great thing to do in North Yorkshire for families, where you can meet over 100 birds of 50 different species.
